Kazuya Deck - 01

Lately, I have been looking at Kazuya's cards a lot, and am starting to get bored of Yoshimitsu (those new cards are coming out today though so hopefully that changes). As a result, I've created a poll to help me choose which character I should take up. I am currently leaning towards Kazuya, Heihachi, and Law (if the game designers mention King, I will add him tot he poll as well). Obviously it will take me some time before I get a full deck rolling, but it never hurts to get an idea of what my blog viewers think. If I were to go with Kazuya, I would run the following deck as my first 15 cards.

The Deck

So I have decided to call this deck "Xiao Yu 2.0" (pronounced She-ow Yu two-point-oh). The reason being, simply because at 80 HP or below, it draws cards as fast as Xiao Yu, and it hits for up to 5 times
more.

Kazuya in a suit
Kazuya in a suit
  • 2x Jaw Breaker: 15 Damage, Punch, Before the attack: Strike & HP ≤ 110: Opp -1 Parry
  • 1x Demon God Fist: 43 Damage, Punch, Before the attack: Block: -1 Parry & +5 HP
  • 3x Skull Smash: 13 Damage, Punch, After the attack: Strike: +1 card
  • 3x Twin Fang Double Kick: 13 Damage, Kick, After the attack: HP ≤ 80: Card discard & +2 cards
  • 1x Devastator: 20 Damage, Punch, After the attack: This card hits: -15 HP & +2 cards
  • 1x Wind God Fist: 25 Damage, Punch, Before the attack: HP ≤ 60: P cards +15 Hit
  • 2x Oni Stomp: 10 Damage, Kick, Before the attack: Opp Strike: HP ≤ 110: +25 Protection
  • 1x Gates of Hell: 20 Damage, Kick, After the attack: HP ≤ 120: Opp -7 HP
Select 1 of the 4 Options
  • 1x Oni Stomp: 10 Damage, Kick, Before the attack: Opp Strike: HP ≤ 110: +25 Protection
  • 1x Double Back Fist: 25 Damage, Punch, Strike: +50 Protection
  • 1x Entrails Smash: 20 Damage, Punch, Opp Strike & Opp cards ≥ 3: +1 Punch Parry
  • 1x Stonehead: 50 Damage, Punch, After the attack: This card appears: Opp +20 HP
  • Power Card: 175 HP, Every turn: P Cards  +2 Hit

This deck has relatively weak damage if HP is greater than the opponents, otherwise, Acute Pain is where the bread and butter is. At 80 HP or less, there are 7 cards which improve the draw rate. That is just under half the deck so it is quite difficult to find yourself in a position with no cards. Choosing between the 4 options is a matter of preference. I prefer Stonehead because a 50 damage card puts the fear of God into your opponent.

Strategy

You will start off with around 175 HP and until you are 110ish HP you need not worry about blocking. Concentrate on not losing Skull Smash from focus breaks and do your best to put some hurt on the enemy. At around 110 HP, watch out for 1-2 card strikes that will leave you at 81 HP or 61 HP. At this point, you should have a good feel for the average damage the opponent can dish out with 1 card, and block potential strikes that will leave you above 80. Remember to consider Oni Stomp and Entrails Smash in your calculations. If you find yourself in a situation where the Opponent is attempting to kill you in a 5 card strike and there are many 3x Block into 5 card discard, then you made a mistake somewhere and you have to wait till you get the Gates of Hell card to force your opponent to strike you or die. When you are under 60 HP and Wind God Fist is procing, you should be able to win with the power you have attained, overwhelming and absolute.

Edit: I have taken out 3x Acute Pain for 2x Jaw Breaker and 1x Demon God Fist. I think Jaw Breaker is a good choice because at 80 HP or below, if you consistently strike, you will be at 1-3 cards.
Kazuya Balling

Conclusion

I am not a Kazuya player (yet...) but this is a deck I would like to try if I pick up Kazuya. I feel Kazuya's decisions to block, focus or strike have more impact then the deck Kazuya uses. I said in a comment on a past post that I felt Kazuya is the most tactical of the characters and possibly the hardest to use in all of Tekken Card Tournament, so if you don't have success at first with Kazuya, don't give up. If you don't want to do a lot of calculations, you may not have an easy time breaking mid 1200's with Kazuya. Hope you found this informative and interesting. Please leave a comment, like, share, subscribe, etc. Thanks for reading =]

  1. Would you consider the same Deck even If one can't afford Rare Cards and has to build It with Uncommon Cards? (As the needed HP go down)

    1. Hi Sincerity,

This is "OK" with uncommon cards. Skull Smash might get you killed fast so it would be wise to upgrade those first, followed by Devastator, then you can choose between Acute Pain, Oni Stomp, Twin Fang Double Kick, etc.

    2. Hi King of Iron Fist,

Thank's for your reply, with "Ok" do you mean that I should try another deck or would you still recommend me this one? Why dont you add Jaw Breaker into your deck It's an awesome way to kill people fast as they loose 1 Parry. Also could you update your Yoshi deck, I'm planning to try Yoshi now that they released the new cards.

    3. Jaw Breaker doesn't have the Damage that Acute Pain has I am thinking of replacing 3x Acute Pain for the new 46 Dmg card, Demon God Fist. The -1 Parry liability is protected by the Oni Stomp Protection. But I will leave it to the readers to decide. Regarding Yoshimitsu's new cards, I bought 3x Shisetsu Genman, and am dropping the ball quite often. I have yet to find a good way to use them. I will update my deck when I can provide a quality deck. In the mean time, Deck 01, for Yoshimitsu should be good. If you go with Yoshimitsu, Magatama and Kimon Matagi are musts for orthodox Yoshimitsu Decks. lol

    4. I suppose Magatama Is a SR Card? Can't afford that anyway

    5. Well yeah Jaw Breaker doesnt have the damage that Acute Pain has, but It gives you more Chances to do a lot of damage In exchange. Maybe you could change Oni Stomp for Jaw Breaker, I haven't seen any good Kazuyas use Oni stomp so far.

    6. Hi Sincerity,

I took your advice for Subbing out Acute Pain for Jaw Breaker or Demon God Fist.

  2. I actually like the deamon scisor/steel pedal drop combo. With oni stomp and GoH, you up your trigger lvl from 80 to 100 to be a real killer.

Happened yesterday in a 1300+ match up. I had 93 hp, double oni stomp, one deamon scisor the GoH and the steel pedal drop :
-i bloc the 3rd card, discard the 5th. Only the 4th can strike me. But i have 50 protection from oni and -10 to his card thanks to the DS. Pretty Strong !

The new fist of god is better than acurate in my opinion, especially if you have DS and entrail smash in your deck. With Fist of God and a defensiv card in play, you can heal yourself all day long, forcing the opponent to focus/strike, and focus break him with the amazing raw dmg on FoG ...

In my oppinion, you only need 2 oni stomp and 2 Twin fang double kick (a good player, wont let you trigger the 80 hp) but need 3 FoG and 3 DS + an ES ...

    1. Hi Anonymous,

Fist Of God is really good. I am writing this after the recent update so the healing abuse come to a halt. I will still take Fist of God if I were Kazuya. The protection from Double Back Fist and Oni Stomps are more than enough.

I think Twin Fang Double Kick is such a staple in a Kazuya Deck. Yes it is true a "good player" won't let you go under 80 HP, but that is why there are cards that help Kazuya reduce their own HP and if you are a good Kazuya, you should be blocking attacks that will leave you at above 80 HP and focusing attacks that will leave you below 80.

      Thanks for the comment =]

    1. Hi Inso,

Sorry to hear about the recent update affecting you in such a negative way. Although the update is unfriendly towards a "Gates of Hell" lockdown build, the deck in this post is not about locking down with Gates of Hell at all. I always saw Gates of Hell as a Plan B in the cases where the opponent has brought you down to 81 HP and is cycling through cards to finish you off with a 5 card strike. Gates of Hell will stop the opponent from discarding all 5 cards and focusing again till they got the right combination.

With the new update, Gates of Hell (at first position and a lot of luck) can do up to 105 HP and during each round the opponent will have to strike you (putting you at below 80 HP) to avoid the damage.

If you were playing this deck as a means to shuffle through cards till Gates of Hell was drawn, try playing it as a fast drawing high damage dealing deck instead. That is the way it is intended to be played.

Thanks for commenting. Let me know if you have any other problems, questions, comments, or suggestions! =]

    2. Actually, they only have to block 3 time and/or force a focus break to stop the GoH lock (new changes : health modification doesnt count anymore for the full reset). I rly think that it's a poor card now. Unfortunately, there is no real good SR card for Kazuya actually (rampaging deamond is pretty low compared to panda SR cards, the heaven door is just ridiculous and the +10hp/turn stop your berzerker mode).

I dont realy know if i will still be able to handle 1350 with those nerfs ...

Thank you for replying. Your blog is amazing, i'm glad to see such a good work !

      Keep it real ;)

P.S. : sorry for my poor english, it's not my mother tong so i do several mistakes ;)

  4. hi, i enjoy reading your deckbuilds! what do u say about this deck in comparison to mine:

    3x Stature Smash (21k - if Opp Block Won and HP<111: +70prot)
In "berserk mode" you will spam Strike all the time, and you will have low HP. You need this one to survive.

    3x Rising Sun (20k - HP<36 & Strike: +2cards)
    Draw engine.

Ux Double Back Fist (25p - Strike: +50prot)
    Survival card.

    3x Twin Fang Double Kick (13k - HP<81: +2cards & Card discarded)
    Draw engine.

    3x Skull Smash (13p - Strike: +1card)
Draw engine (don't lose it because of a Focus Break).

    SRx Rampaging Demon (35p - HP<71: +25prot)
    Survival card. Good damage too.

    1x Demon's Wrath (23p - Dual Strike: +25prot)
The last survival card of the deck.

    1. Hi Mahvel, Thanks for commenting!

I like the idea of Rising Sun, but having 35 HP or less is really tough to pull off, especially when you don't have any self damage inflicting cards like Engetsusen, Tsunami Kick or Devastator. Against a good player, they will drop you from 81 HP to 0 or 81 to 36 to 0. Rising Sun is an extremely risky card.

I think if you get under 35 HP, you will definitely win though.

Regarding your protection. I think it will be extremely vulnerable to (Xiaoyu) Wave Crest and (Law) Wolf Fang

  5. so u think, ur deck will have a better win/loose ratio because its more consisting? would my deck improve dramatically if i swap in a DEVASTATOR?

i hope u know u killed the meta w/ ur punch lili deck. i built it too, and it is awesome!!! was lucky to draw elysee SR in one ultra pack

    1. Kazuya Decks these days are very circled around the triple Skull Smasher and Twin Fang Double Kick build. Personally I think that is enough for drawing, I also add a Devastator because I feel Devastator is just awesome. I am currently using this deck with Entrails Smash instead of Demon God Fist and selected Double Back Fist as my option. My rating is currently 1320.

I am not sure how your deck will fair in the Online WW Tournament because I have personally not tried it. From the looks of it, I think the 3x Rising Suns will NEVER play. Currently the top players use Lili, Kazuya, Paul and the rest are not as common. Lili will drop you to 81+ and than drop you again to 0. Kazuya vs Kazuya fights, anything can happen, but generally whoever gets to 80 HP first wins (lol). Paul will drop you to 120+ HP and than drop you to 0 HP (there are ways to avoid this), or they will drop you from 100% hp to 0.

I have nothing against Rising Sun, infact I think it is quite a funny card especially with 3x Skull Smashers, 3x Twin Fang Double Kick and a Devastator. I find it hilarious when the opponent simply blocks to death. The only problem is, it is really difficult to trigger the effect due to the low HP requirement.

I think adding a Devastator will improve your deck but not dramatically. There will be situations where Devastator will get you to 80 HP or below, and that's when it really shines.

Thanks for the compliment about the Lili Punch deck, but I cannot take the credit. People have been using the Lili Punch deck for a long time. It is just that when the Developers nerfed all the top decks, this one was left un-nerfed.

    2. when u say, there are ways to avoid pauls death strikes....could u MAYBE do a tutorial like the one u did with ling? that was just an awesome read!

the more i think about it, the more i see how silly it is to have 9(!) draw cards, u can only have 5 cards in ur hand and i think i will sell my deck to build ur deck, i cant manage to go past 1250 with my kaz deck. mainly due to the fact, as u said, the heavy hitter have no problems to kill u from 81 HP.

probs to u, for seeing that kaz is actually the most strategic chara in the game!

u really need some protection in high lvl plays, else u wont cut it, simply to the fact that paul can dish out real dmg with one card and the other top tier will end up with 3-5 cards after every strike..but i REALLY dislike demon scissors. dunno why XD

    3. Hi Mahvel,

I was thinking of making "Paul Matchup" post but I feel for Paul the fight is so linear and doesn't really justify a post (lol). Also, I can't really see a theme to Paul's cards (other than extremely high damage). I will try to make a Paul Matchup post but I will need to gather some information.

A good tip to help you with your Kazuya game is, around 120 HP, block damage that will leave you above 80 HP and focus/strike otherwise. If the opponent has a 5 card strike ready, and blocking will leave you at 81 HP, you should probably focus. This is because, they are most likely going to kill you with a 5 card strike from 81 HP to 0, mine as well take the chance and go below 80.

Regarding Protection, I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, Xiaoyu's Wave Crest and Law's Wolf Fang make protection obsolete. Since the most common characters atm are Lili, Kazuya and Paul, protection really is necessary. That being said, I would still be weary of purchasing Demon's Wrath (I really like inferior versions of other cards).

Some advice for Paul as Kazuya: Block the first attack (unless it is a utility card). This is because they are most likely to strike you, focus to 5 and strike you for the finish. An example, if a Paul starts off with a 50 Damage card (65 due to the Power card damage boost), I would block it. If they focus they will have 2 cards and if it leaves me below 80, I will focus, else block.

    1. actually your deck isnt that good in my opinion. I play kaz @1350+ btw. Try to play with tips provided on this web site (your build base should be 3skulls smash, 3 twing fang double kick and 1 devastaor ).

after you do need 1 wind god fist. For the SR, rampaging is the best actually. Then DGF is a must have for the moment. You got too many cards, try to group your cards to get 3 times the same. So you can get the same pattern every turn. Here you just cant know what kind of card will come after a focus witch is bad idea imo

  7. Hello, firstly good job with your blog, secondly I have a question. I a playing tekken since over a month and from the start I have deck that I like to play. But more I play the more I have second thoughts about it. Right now I am regular over 1100 player, playing silver version of this wit gold skull smash, the deck i would like to have in the futher presents like this:

    - Power Card hp 175

    - 3x Skull Smash: 13 Damage, Punch, After the attack: Strike: +1 card

    - 3x Twin Fang Double Kick: 11 Damage, Kick, After the attack: HP ≤ 80: Card discard & +2 cards

    - 1x Wind God Fist: 25 Damage, Punch, Before the attack: HP ≤ 60: P cards +15 Hit

    - 3x Oni Stomp: 10 Damage, Kick, Before the attack: Opp Strike: HP ≤ 110: +25 Protection

    - 1x Double Back Fist: 25 Damage, Punch, Strike: +50 Protection

    - 3x Demon God Fist: 43 Damage, Punch, Before the attack: Block: -1 Parry & +5 HP

    - as a SR Rampaging Demon: 35 Damage, punch, Before the attack: If you have no more than 70 HP, you gain 25 Protection.

    as a side deck:
Devastator or Engetsusen ( i don't really feel manipulating hp by this cards on level i am cureently playing most players can be easily played into starting my god mode )

The main idea of playing this deck is not to let opponent block demon god fist ( 5 card strikes ) and to protect yourself with oni stopm insted of block action - Have you met something like this? What do you think?

    1. Hi Niko Topola

I HIGHLY recommend Devastator. that card is so awesome.

I don't really enjoy using Oni Stomp as the damage is very horrible and does not go along with your theme.

I know I created this deck a couple months ago but as of now, I actually prefer Jaw Breakers more as they will aid cards such as Devastator, or Demon God Fist to hit. I recommend taking out all 3 Oni Stomps and putting in 2 Jaw Breakers and a Devastator. I used that exact deck and went to 1300+, so 1100 should be a breeze.

      Hope this helps.

    1. Hi,

Rampaging Demon is a pretty good card, but it doesn't always provide that protection. Alternatively, you can go for a cheaper alternative such as "Demon's Wrath" if you already have "Double Back Fist". Gates of Hell is nice too.

Keep trying for the Rampaging Demon. It is 3x SR card day this weekend so many people should be getting SR cards.
